I took this idea and made three different fonts from handwritten/handmade elements (these can be seen on my flickr page). Combining these with handmade images, symbols related to protest, I created these three routes.</span><br /><br /><br /><span style="font-family:verdana;">First route was created by using just type, and using this as the imagery as well, the only ink used would be black and thus reducing the cost of printing as the budget is £500. The posters and flyers will be printed onto colourful paper to make it stand out and still be coloured, just not through ink.</span> <span style="font-family:verdana;">Second route is similar, however it uses an image and different font to create another appearance. The image is of simply drawn protestors, which can be transfered to various medium, including badges and t-shirts. From the choice of three, I decided to illustrate 'Empire', a story about a man who is no more than tumbleweed, rolling through his life with things that just seem to happen with no feeling or foresight.<br /><br />As the main character annoyed me to my very core, I decided to use his descriptions of what is happening around him and the characters involved in his frustratingly numb existence. These are really interesting and summon up amazing imagery while reading.<br /><br />The one you see above is a response to the descriptions he gives about a group of army guys drinking beer, shuffling cards and roaring with laughter. I decided to take the approach to my drawing with imagination rather than reality, using characters and symbols to create an image as well as stick to line drawing.<br /><br />At first it looks like a crazily busy drawing, but on closer inspection, the picture shows the sergeant as a lion, emphasizing the 'roaring with laughter', as well as a broken heart on one of the cards having a broken heart, symbolising the adultery. I've decided, to keep me drawing everyday, I will start a project called <span style="font-weight: bold;">'365' </span>which will consist of an illustration a day, drawn by me to show something that happened to me that was exciting. The point being to make a series at the end called <span style="font-weight: bold;">'365'</span> to show my year in illustrations.<br /><br />I will keep you all updated as this progresses.
